Blog Week 1

Technology, technology, technology. Internet, advanced machines, and cell phones are all examples of a few pieces of technology equipment the world uses in this day and age. Although the technology in the world is becoming more advanced each and every day, it is astounding to see the age groups, of technology users. Children these days have cell phones and computers at the age of six! It is disturbing to see how young a child can be and own technology such as a cell phone or computer. Cell phones and computers are important to the older generations of this day to communicate in this world. It is unnecessary for young children to own pieces of equipment, like the cell phone or computer. Children these days are growing up way to fast and need a reality check. Children have an imagination that needs to be enhanced, while computers and cell phones take away from the enhancement.
Although the hormones, put in meat these days, are linked to children growing up faster, I think that the technology can also be blamed. I was standing at the counter at Buffalo Wild Wings, where I work, when I spotted a young girl playing the “claw machine.” The little girl had to be around the age of seven. In the very middle of playing the machine, this little girl stopped focusing on what stuffed animal she wanted from inside the machine and started texting on her cell phone. I could not believe my eyes. When I was a child, I did not have a cell phone and I was perfectly fine. In fact, I did not get a cell phone until my junior year of high school. Although people argue that cell phones come in handy during emergencies, I do not see how children are in any more danger today than I was when I was a child. I survived my childhood and most of my high school years without a cell phone, and I think that children today can do the same.
Children need to use their imagination, and by having computers and cell phones as an everyday use, children are using less and less of their imagination. While computers do have a few games that stimulate children’s brains and help them learn, children today are spending way too much time on their computers. Today’s society is all about technology and using computers, but I believe that there is such thing as too young. Children can play outside and learn from reading books instead of searching the internet 24/7. Once children are to a certain age, such as junior high level, they can then begin understanding technology better. Until then, children are fine without advanced technology.

Letter Of Introduction

Dearest Stephanie,
Although I have many unique qualities, I would like to share just a few things about myself that show my individuality. One thing that makes me who I am is that I play the sport tennis. I consider it a big part of my life. I started playing tennis when I was at a very young age, just for fun. I had seen my brother and dad play tennis and wanted to learn how to play as well. I continued to play tennis as I grew older and was on the tennis team at East Peoria High School. Now that I am out of high school and in college, I just play tennis on occasion for fun. It is such an enjoyable sport for me and keeps me active. If I ever have anything on my mind, I can turn to tennis to ease my mind. When I am out on the court I don’t think about anything else but tennis. Also, tennis is a sport in which I can continue to play, well into my old age. Another thing that goes hand in hand with playing tennis and being active, is the fact that I am an outdoors type of person. I enjoy just about any activity that involves being outside in the sun. I love hiking, going for walks, swimming, kicking a soccer ball around, jumping on a trampoline, or just sitting outside on my deck.
Now that you know a little more about myself, I want to talk about my goals for this year. Knowing that college is an important step in my life, gives me the goal of achieving all A’s and B’s in my college classes. Getting good grades is not about looking good in front of my family or friends, but is my personal goal for myself because I know that I am capable of it. I can do anything as long as I put my mind to it. Another goal of mine for this year is to learn how to manage my time every day of the week. I want to use more of my time for studying rather than wasting time on face book. Not only do I want to have a better feel for time management in my school studies, but also in my personal life. My goal is to learn how to balance family, work, friends, and my boyfriend. I need to fit each category into their own time slot and not overlap. Now that you’ve gotten a better look at who I am, I hope you can continue to see my personality show.
Sincerely,
Bethany Dorich
