work, work, work

When it comes to having a job, working hard seems like a top priority to me. A job isn't just some thing you do to pass time or have fun. Although some jobs can be fun, it is always important to work hard and do what you need to do. When I am at my job, I do what I'm supposed to and have fun only when I have time. It really gets on my nerves when my coworkers talk nonstop and don't pay attention to what they are doing. I work at Buffalo Wild Wings and it is important that we bag up people's to-go orders properly. What I don't understand is how a person can be oblivious to the reason they are at work. Another thing we do at my job, is called portioning. We have little cups of ranch, blue cheese, southwest ranch, cocktail, honey mustard, sour cream, and a few others. Our job is to pour the sauces into the little cups. We have a certain amount of cups that we have to portion at the end of our shifts to ensure that there will be enough for the next people's shift. What I don't understand is how people can not do what they are supposed to and not feel bad about it. Does fairness ever come to a person's mind? Or what about work ethics? A business needs certain things in order to work, including different tasks for each worker. Having a good work ethic will get you a lot farther in your career.

Do you know how to hold a baby?

I'm sure everyone has held a baby before, but did you do it correctly? I came to this realization tonight when I was holding my boyfriend's newborn nephew. As I watched the baby's mom hold him, I thought about how careful you have to be. Not everyone realizes this. Some people pick up a baby and figure he or she can hold his or her head up on their own. Not only that, but some people carry their baby around like a baby doll. A real life baby and a baby doll are two completely different things.
Babies are helpless little human beings and need tender loving care more than anything. If you have never held a baby before, just think about the future. Most of you are planning on having children someday and need to be ready. My boyfriend's brother-in-law is not well acquainted with the way of holding a baby. It made me realize how unprepared some parents might be. He propped the baby up on his stomach to sleep, which seemed a little risky. I wasn't sure how well he could breathe.
Babies are little people that look to their caregivers for support and love. The way you hold a baby doesn't seem very important, when in reality it is vital. When holding a baby, make sure that you always support their necks. Babies, especially newborns, don't have the strength to hold their heads up on their own and need help. Also, when handing the baby over to someone else, make sure that they have a firm grasp on the baby. You don't want the baby to end up on the floor or anywhere else they shouldn't be.

wrong title. woops!

So, my last blog is supposed to say week 6. Not week 5.

week 5 blog =)

As a college student, I am finding that having someone, besides myself, read my papers over is a gigantic help. When I was younger, and even up through high school, I figured that after I wrote a rough draft a certain way that I should keep it. I mean, I did do a few changes here and there to my papers, after receiving comments from my teachers, but I never took into consideration that I could always make my papers better.
Now that I am in college, and have many more resources to help me with my papers, I work harder on really changing my rough draft. A rough draft is just a way of getting everything on paper that is in my head. Just because I have all of my thoughts written down, doesn't mean that it is any good. My rough draft is just an overview and plan of how I want to write my paper. Although, if the structure of a paper I write is okay in my rough draft, I can always keep it and just fix my sentence structures and details.
Having someone else look over my papers, gives me an outside view of how well I've written my paper. That person can provide me with different view points and ideas. Even if the person that is looking over my paper likes what I've written so far, it can still encourage me to add on to what I've done to make it that much better. Why not use such an easy tool when the oppurtunity arises? It can't hurt me. It can only help.

Week 5 already?!

I was sitting on my couch the other day, eating barbeque potato chips, when I realized that I was literally becoming a couch potato. I then realized that I was sitting inside my house on a beautiful, sunny day eating chips when I could be outside, enjoying myself while staying healthy at the same time. Why in the world would I choose sitting on the couch? It beat me.

Yes, I am guilty of being a couch potato, but I’m pretty sure everyone is, or has been. I am not realizing how great it is to get out and do things outside more often. Now that I’m a healthier person, I can’t understand why I wanted to sit around on the couch all day. What is it about being lazy that attracts human beings? Why would we want to sit and eat, all day and feel gross, on the inside and out, because of it? Now that I see the light, I don’t understand how anyone can completely ignore being healthy and exercising.

I understand that fatty foods are delicious, but I’m not only talking about food. I’m talking about staying healthy in general. After eating junk food and sitting around the house all day long, how can one feel good about themselves? If I watch the television all day, I feel like I just wasted my day away. Not only that, but I then realize that I ate a ton of junk food while watching TV and I just feel disgusting. What is so hard about eating, at least, some healthy foods each day and getting a little exercise each day? To me, it really is not difficult.

There are so many different steps that a person can take to stay healthy and feel good about themselves. Not just steps, but little steps. I went from eating 0 pieces of fruit a day to eating an apple or banana each day. I even decided to change my snacking habits. Instead of eating almost an entire bag of chips for a snack, I will munch on grapes, or a granola bar. They make me just as full, and make me feel better inside. Just knowing that I’m staying healthy, puts me in a better mood. It really does help. Try it.

school writing vs. my own

I have noticed, that when I write in school, vs. out of school, I do write a little bit differently. I guess, because all throughout my school years I was taught to write a certain way, I continue to write that way in school even to this day. School, especially when we are little, is edited when it comes to teaching information. School normally only wants the students to write about good experiences and things that other students will be able to relate to. When I write on my own, I don’t care if anyone else can relate to me, because I don’t plan on showing my writing to anyone else. Not that I want to write about bad things, but I just think that I hold myself in too much when I write for school. I’m not daring and out there because I’m afraid of what my teachers or other students will think. If I’m writing in my journal I pour every ounce of what I am thinking onto the paper. When I’m writing in school, I hold things in and just write what I think would be best for the paper. Another difference that I have noticed between my school writing and my writing that I do for myself, is the fact that I can completely pick what I want to write about when I’m writing on my own. All throughout high school, I was mainly told what to write about and never got to choose for myself. Although college, is better about letting the students write what they want, I still sometimes feel like what I’m writing is not completely me. When I am writing in my journal, I do not hold back. I write whatever is on my mind at any interval during my writing. Also, in school I have to keep my thoughts organized. In my head, my thoughts are swirling through my head uncontrollably and it is sometimes hard for me to organize them all. In my papers for school, I have to think more about how I want to word things. In my own writings, I can put things wherever I please.

it's your life

It probably gets annoying, hearing about how important it is to keep our environment and our Earth clean huh? Well just take a moment to think about how keeping our planet clean is actually worthwhile. Just think of all the things that your mom nags you about and compare. I know, my mom is always telling me to clean my room, make my bed, do my laundry, do the dishes, and so on. Although it can get on my nerves, I just think about how it will help me in the long run. In comparison, every little thing that we, as human beings, can do four our planet will help in the long run.

How is it that there are so many little things we can do to help our environment, and most people don’t do them? What can possibly be more important than keeping one’s planet healthy? Although you cannot see the results immediately, just think about the future. What if our planet has a breakdown while we are still living? Although it seems improbable, just keep it in mind. Even if nothing were to happen to us in our lifetime, just think about our kids. Most people plan on having children. Our children may be affected by the fact that we don’t take care of our planet.

There are so many little things that you can do to keep the planet clean. It’s not like it’s a big deal to recycle. Keep a recycling bin in your house or in your garage and there you have it. Everyone knows to throw trash in the garbage can, so do the same thing with the recycling bin. Just get used to throwing your plastics and cardboard boxes in the recycling bin and it will become a habit. Another little trick to keeping the planet clean, is to actually throw trash away and not litter. A lot of people end up littering because they are driving in their car and don’t have a trash can handy. Just keep a garbage bag in your car, or even a plastic bag from Wal-Mart. Even if you don’t litter, go around a few days a week and pick up some trash along the streets. It will not take too much of your time and will significantly help the environment. Just think, if everyone were to pick up just a few pieces of trash every day, it would amount to a massive decrease in litter.
