work, work, work

When it comes to having a job, working hard seems like a top priority to me. A job isn't just some thing you do to pass time or have fun. Although some jobs can be fun, it is always important to work hard and do what you need to do. When I am at my job, I do what I'm supposed to and have fun only when I have time. It really gets on my nerves when my coworkers talk nonstop and don't pay attention to what they are doing. I work at Buffalo Wild Wings and it is important that we bag up people's to-go orders properly. What I don't understand is how a person can be oblivious to the reason they are at work. Another thing we do at my job, is called portioning. We have little cups of ranch, blue cheese, southwest ranch, cocktail, honey mustard, sour cream, and a few others. Our job is to pour the sauces into the little cups. We have a certain amount of cups that we have to portion at the end of our shifts to ensure that there will be enough for the next people's shift. What I don't understand is how people can not do what they are supposed to and not feel bad about it. Does fairness ever come to a person's mind? Or what about work ethics? A business needs certain things in order to work, including different tasks for each worker. Having a good work ethic will get you a lot farther in your career.

  1. I know what you mean man. When I'm at work and I have projects to work on, I love getting in the zone and just going at it. I hate getting interrupted and I especially hate getting distracted by coworkers who just want to bull shit. I mean don't get me wrong, I'm up for chatting and goofing around, but when I'm mid-project and really gettting things done, I prefer to be left alone. One night in particular, I had several projects that needed to be finished before close and one of my coworkers proceded to follow me around and around the store just talking. It's one thing if she helps while chatting, but to just stand there and talk while I'm working my ass off is a pain.

  2. Sounds like a lot of us go through this. I worked for an insurance company for four years before leaving to come back to school. I busted my ass there while others stood around and talked or sat at their desks doing nothing!!! WTF I was raised with good work ethics you give your all no matter what your job is even if you hate it. You make things harder for your co-workers by being lazy SOB's. BTW my husband loves BWW's and could eat there everyday!! We went there for our anniversary oct. 29. :)

  3. I totally get this, Bethany. I can't even imagine what is going through the minds of slackers at work. It pisses me off.

    Good blog topic.

  4. Well I think yes work can be fun sometimes but you must get your work done before you can have fun. Because if you dont and screw up and customers see that they will not want to come back. At my work I have spoke up to my coworkers and tell them what they are doing is wrong and they need to stop so we can get customers back. In this rough economic times we need all the customers we can get. So, I think you should speak up and see what happens. It could be a really good thing.
